Top-25 WNBA Free Agents 2023

Now that it is January 21 st and teams can meet with players, WNBA free agency is officially upon us!  While they can’t sign/come to terms with agreements until February 1 st , there are still several players to keep an eye on during this free agency.  This year has been highly touted as an amazing class for the second year in a row, and while it might not be quite as top-heavy as last year’s class was (though it’s up there), I think it is deeper.  There are 7 players who were All-Stars last season, 5 I would consider current superstars, several others who were previously All-Stars or have All-Star potential, and a large number who could play a major role on a winning team.  While there hasn’t been much movement of stars in the last few seasons outside of a few notable players, this year could be drastically different, as there are only 3 players in the top-7 who I find extremely likely to resign with their prior team.  This year could also have major implicati...

Maya Moore: The GOAT On and Off the Court

On January 16, 2023, Maya Moore announced her retirement from basketball.  While she hadn’t played since 2018, she never officially retired (she was on hiatus from basketball starting in 2019).  She is one of the best WNBA players ever, one of the best UConn players, and is personally my favorite WNBA player of all time.  That said, her illustrious basketball career might not even the most important thing she has accomplished thus far in her life. Despite living in Connecticut for all but 4-5 years of my life, I am not a UConn fan.   That said, as with most Connecticut resident, I rooted for UConn Women’s Basketball when they played.   While there are several players who are arguably the best player in the program’s history, including Breanna Stewart (I imagine most individuals’ choice), Swin Cash, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Rebecca Lobo, Kara Wolters, and Katie Lou Samuelson, I have a difficult time arguing against Moore.   She was a 2-time c...

Teams to Watch at the 2023 Trade Deadline

The NBA Trade Deadline occurs on February 9 th and is annually a point of excitement amongst fans.  Every year there’s the threat where it seems like everything could happen that day (i.e., the 2022 deadline), or a day where nothing happens (the 2017 major deadline deal of Nerlens Noel comes to mind).  This season could go either way due to the amount of parity in the league and the lack of one clear frontrunner in either conference, especially the West. In this post, I will discuss teams that I think will be interesting to watch at the trade deadline.   Realistically most teams could make some move, but I am going to focus on teams that will be discussed a lot or could make big moves (for instance, I don’t see the Celtics doing anything big due to their lack of needs.   I also am not including the Timberwolves since they traded their draft capitol away).   I am going to focus on 10 teams that I think will be most intriguing to keep an eye on, in order by tea...
