2024 WNBA Draft Grades

The WNBA Draft is in the books, and it was an exciting one!  While I thought most teams did very well, there were some teams that I didn’t think were successful.  All teams made picks in this year’s draft; all teams are listed in alphabetical order by location. Something to note is that most players drafted in any WNBA draft don't end up making the roster since there are fewer roster spots and no minor league affiliate.  While I'm not assuming which players make or don't make a roster, I evaluated them based on the role that they would play if they do.  That said, don't be surprised if most of these players (especially second- and third-round picks) do not make the roster for the team that selected them.   Atlanta Dream ·        Nyadiew Puoch (12) ·        Isobel Borlase (20) ·        Matilde Villa (32) While Atlanta received criticism from some for picking 3 internat...

2024 NBA Playoff Predictions

After an exciting and dramatic season, the NBA Playoffs have finally arrived!  While I think there are two teams that will have their way as they get to the NBA Finals, I still think each round contains some very interesting matchups that could be a lot of fun to watch. In this post, I provide my analysis, the x-factor (a non-star player who I think will make a massive impact, though I took some liberties with “star” with the Celtics since their team is loaded) for the team I have winning the round, and my predictions.   I did not make official predictions for the Play-In Tournament since I genuinely had no idea what would happen in each game; all predictions are after the results had been determined (or when it became obvious that the Heat would be the 8-seed late in their game against the Bulls).   First Round East 1 Boston Celtics vs. 8 Miami Heat Without Jimmy Butler, you would think that Boston would torch Miami in this series; that said, I think Boston w...

2024 WNBA Mock Draft

Ahead of the 2024 WNBA Draft on Monday, April 15th, I decided to create a mock draft for it!  In the past, I have not created mock drafts for the WNBA Draft for two reasons:  it occurs so soon after the tournament that it is tougher to be ready with it, and there haven’t been a ton of mock drafts out for the WNBA draft, especially ones that go past the first round (as I’ll discuss in a bit, this is necessary for my drafts).  This year, I had the time to create one, and there were several mock drafts released, making it a no-brainer for me to create one in a draft that I find fascinating beyond the story lines of the top pick.  While Caitlin Clark is the no brainer first pick and Cameron Brink is a clear second pick, I think the top-4 picks have a good chance of being All-Stars, there are several players who will be quality starters/role players, there are multiple players who I think will need to change their style if they want to succeed (even ones I think will be f...
